Music (Fridays)
This year, we will be studying classic hymns and their composers. Each hymn will (usually) be given two weekly sessions of study. After that, it will be added to our sing-along times as a family.

This year, we will be studying classic hymns and their composers. Each hymn will (usually) be given two weekly sessions of study. After that, it will be added to our sing-along times as a family.
Week 1
- Hymn sheet music placed in music notebook.
- Sing verses 1 & 2 through 2-3 times, until we have a feel for the song.
- They should be looking at the sheet music as they sing.
- Read about the composer from one of several possible resource books, such as “Then Sings My Soul: 150 of the World’s Greatest Hymn Stories.”
- Share the online recordings of the song. (Each song has a list of 4-6 different videos.)
Week 2
- Check out the Wikipedia page for the hymn. Share interesting info found there. There may be traditional sound clips to listen to as well.
- Show the girls a picture of the composer from the internet.
- In your music notebook, complete a “About the Hymn” worksheet
- Sing verses 1 & 2. Add additional verses.
- Optional: Activity page can be completed (if available).
- Have the girls explain what the song is about and what they thought of it.
