Useful background information: Katie Rose (age 10) loves to draw and sees most school work as an unavoidable delay in getting back to her art. We incorporate art into everything we can, but you can only stretch math so far. Ellie (age 7) loves science, which makes Sweet Hubby deeply happy. (He teaches science; I teach history.)
We are almost done with Story of the World I: Ancient History. We are mostly just reading the last few chapters, sans maps and additional works. In the years to come, they will spend a lot of time in history and Bible on the rise of Christianity and fall of Israel - since that's one of my 'areas'. I'm not going to belabor it now. I am going to spend a little more time covering Boudicea of Britain. I had heard the name, but don't remember learning about her. I am intrigued by strong women in history. (I can't wait until we get to Eleanor of Aquitaine!)
Speaking of Eleanor, my assignment over the next month is to lay out lesson plans for the coming year's history lessons. The Story of the World: The Middle Ages. My greatest challenge will to not be disappointed when they are not as excited about history as I am. However, maybe they will be more interested in The Middle Ages than Ancient History. After all, the middle ages has castles and princesses. I'm hoping to fit a trip to a renaissance fair in, also. Nothing says history is cool like a turkey leg and bawdy jesters. Maybe we'll dress up. SO many possibilities! Lesson plans await...
